Members, Supporters and Users – the difference
Member
Becoming a Member of RadioDNS is the only way to influence the direction and organisation of the RadioDNS Project.
Through the Steering Board and meetings, Members can help explore new pieces of work that build on the RadioDNS framework, to enable further functionality. While anyone can base functionality on the open RadioDNS framework, only functionality that has been submitted by a Member through the Steering Board will be actively promoted by the RadioDNS Project, thereby encouraging take-up of new functionality by broadcasters and receivers.
Members can vote at meetings, and nominate candidates for the roles of Chairperson, Secretary and Steering Board Member.
Anyone can become a Member, subject to the Membership Process. It is open to you if you are a Broadcaster, a Software Provider, a Consumer Electronics manufacturer, or anyone else.
There is a fee to become a Member: which will be a maximum of CHF2.000-.
If you want to join, please read our announcement from February 17th.
Supporter
Supporters of RadioDNS have an interest in RadioDNS, and are supportive of the RadioDNS Project’s overall aims. Joining the list of Supporters allows the RadioDNS Project to indicate the widespread worldwide support of RadioDNS, including your organisation.
If you become a Supporter, it represents no commitment to launch services using the RadioDNS framework, nor any promotional or organisational role. However, becoming a Supporter does not give any way of your organisation influencing the overall direction of the project, nor any voting rights; it doesn’t automatically allow you into any meetings. If you want to help the RadioDNS Project, while becoming a Supporter is a good start, you should consider becoming a Member.
There is no fee to become a Supporter, and it is open to you regardless of your organisation’s area of business.
To aid the RadioDNS Project, all Broadcasters who request inclusion in the RadioDNS database (‘Users’) are encouraged to become a Supporter.
User
A Broadcaster who requests inclusion in the RadioDNS database is a User of RadioDNS. This confers no rights other than their inclusion in the RadioDNS database.
There is a fee to be included in the RadioDNS databse. The fee and charging structure is yet to be set by the Steering Board, though it is expected to be comparable to other domain-name systems.
