RadioDNS

Candidates

These are the candidates for the forthcoming election at the Third General Assembly on 1st April 2010.

Where statements about a candidate have been listed, this is not necessarily indicative of the number of nominations received.

Chairperson

James Cridland (Not At All Bad Ltd.)

James’s commitment to RadioDNS needs no explanation.  I think he’d be well positioned to Chair the commitee.

Nick Piggott (Global Radio (UK))

I believe I can bring unique skills, enthusiasm and insight to the role of Chairperson. I have experience of working with broadcasters from both public and commercial sectors, and understand that the broadcasting landscape and priorities vary greatly between countries. I think I can do a good job of promoting RadioDNS as a technology solution that’s attractive to broadcasters and manufacturers, and to encourage collaboration and foster communication. I have long believed that we would grow faster by Agreeing on Technology and Competing on Content, and RadioDNS is a great example of that.

Secretary

James Cridland (Not At All Bad Ltd.)

James has been instrumental in the foundation of RadioDNS, and he should be a central part of its transition to a permanent service. James has experience and enthusiasm that RadioDNS would benefit greatly from.

Steering Board Members (9 Roles)

Mathias Coinchon (EBU)

Mathias Coinchon is the EBU’s expert on radio matters amongst other things. EBU represents 75 broadcasters from 56 countries in the European area. EBU technical is a leading light in the main standardising organisations on broadcasting and is currently working for harmonisation of delivery technologies for Radio in Europe and the hybrid broadcast/broadband approach. By participating to the steering board, the objective is to make sure that a consistent and coherent deployment of RadioDNS is made for broadcasters in Europe.

James Cridland (Not At All Bad Ltd.)

I’m passionate about what this technology can do for radio listeners, broadcasters and manufacturers. The possibilities of a hybrid radio are limitless. RadioDNS can significantly improve the listening experience and profitability of a radio station; and has the capability of delivering services that are unique and exciting to consumer electronics. It’s no exaggeration to say that RadioDNS can change the face of radio. I am one of the team that has worked on the RadioDNS Project up until now. I’m well connected with radio across the world, having completed a ‘world tour’ of radio broadcasters, and have experience in both the private and public sectors within the UK, one of the most ‘multiplatform’ radio landscapes in the world. 2010 is my 21st year in the radio business; I’d be honoured to play my part as an active member of the RadioDNS Steering Board.

Adrian Cross (Unique Interactive)

Adrian has been leading the software development effort for Unique Interactive for 5 years.  In that time he has gathered significant and diverse experiences through designing and delivering large scale systems to both commercial and public sector broadcasters including Sirius XM, Bauer Radio and the BBC.

Joe D’Angelo (iBquity / Representing Clear Channel)

Joe D’Angelo is a leader in Data Services at iBiquity Digital Radio.  As such, he regularly works with all US broadcasters that are interested in launching advanced services.  Joe will bring a unique US and HD Radio centric perspective to the RadioDNS boad which I think will be valuable in gaining broad US adoption.

Chris Gould (All In Media)

I have been involved in creating and delivering data applications for radio stations for over ten years. I am a member of the WorldDMB Technical Committee, and chaired the Taskforce that created the DAB Electronic Programme Guide specification. My company, All In Media, is a strong supporter of RadioDNS-based services; we were the first company to launch RadioVIS services in Australia and Ireland, and have incorporated that technology into our mobile phone applications and broadcast data management tools.

Ian Henderson (RadioTime)

Ian is our head of sales and distribution in Europe and has a long history in the internet radio and broadcast industry.  He is uniquely suited to provide perspective for embedded device standards, broadcaster integration, and the market intricacies in Europe and abroad.  He will bring a practical and experienced voice to the RadioDNS group.

Martyn Humphries (Bauer Media)

Martyn is Bauer Radio’s Head of Broadcast Systems. As well as being responsible for the day to day operations of Bauer’s London and Southern England stations, Martyn has been heavily involved in the development of Bauer’s digital and online strategy. This crossover of skills and interest between traditional broadcast engineering and IT discliplines, together with a close relationship with programme production and commercial teams make him an ideal candidate to drive RadioDNS’s development through practical and commercial application as well as technological development.

Nick Jurascheck (PURE)

Pure have thrown their weight behind RadioDNS with the Sensia and I think it would be invaluable to have them on the steering board.

Nick has been involved with the development of DAB products for over 10 years and has served on the WorldDMB Technical Committee for most of that time, recently leading the Rich Media Task Force. He has also been involved with the DRM Project and IMDA. In recent years he has led the development of hybrid connected products and services at PURE, including the Sensia radio, which was the first commercial product to use RadioDNS and RadioVIS to display DAB slideshows, and The Lounge web content portal. Nick has 25 years experience in multimedia software and product research and development and has worked in the consumer electronics business for the last 18 years, following a period working in research and completing a PhD at Birmingham University. He is currently Director of Software for PURE, a division of Imagination Technologies.

David Layer (NAB)

I am nominating myself to serve on the Steering Board because my organization, NAB, is eager to become involved in the work of RadioDNS and assume a leadership role.  As Senior Director, Advanced Engineering in the NAB Science and Technology department, I believe that I have sufficient technical background to serve on the Steering Board and I further believe that I am well-positioned to represent RadioDNS within the radio broadcasting industry.

Ben Matthew (Absolute Radio)

Absolute Radio are committed to bring new and innovative technologies into the traditional radio space of which we have a long history. As a broadcaster I think we’d be well placed to influence RadioDNS for the benefit of the radio industry.

John Ousby (vTuner)

John has been involved in many of the key developments for radio across digital platforms, including the internet, DAB, mobile and digital TV. John launched Virgin Radio online in 1996, was Head of Distribution Technologies for BBC Audio & Music until last year, and now is Director, Broadcaster Services with the internet media aggregator vTuner.  John was a steering board member of WorldDMB and was a founding member of the International Webcasting Association (Europe and US). John hopes to use his experience of interactive, public service and commercial radio as well as global radio related trade organisations to help Radio DNS move forward successfully.

Nick Piggott (Global Radio (UK))

Nick’s commitment to RadioDNS needs no explanation.  His and James’s work on RadioDNS make him an ideal member of the steering group.

Michael Reichert (SWR)

Michael is an expert in digital radio since many years. Until 2007 he worked as an editor for the digital radio brand SWR cont.ra (where he was also responsible for the programme innovation). Since 2008 he’s working as an strategic thema group leader, e.g. the media-research project “Future Radio” (with commercial radio stations in Baden-Württemberrg) as well as for SWR-internal strategic projects.

Russell Stendell (ABC)

Russell has been responsible for the planning and development of new digital radio services for the ABC – ABC Dig Music, ABC Jazz and ABC Country – launched on 1 July 2009 as part of the ABC’s switch-on of its digital radio services in the five mainland capital cities of Australia. As well as leading ABC Radio’s digital radio content strategy and the ABC’s involvement in developing digital radio for Australia, Russell manages the coordination of ABC Radio’s transmission and technology requirements.

George Wright (BBC)

George is Head of Prototyping for BBC Research and Development. He has been involved with radio (production and technology) for more than 20 years, starting out in local, then network radio. After moving into new media, he led the team which produced BBC DAB text and radio services on Freeview (DVB-T) in the UK, and now runs a cross discipline team which created reference applications and created source code for early implementations of RadioDNS clients. He has worked in BBC Future Media and Technology for more than 14 years, across all digital platforms, and is Creative Director and WP lead on an EU EP7 funded project (P2P-Next). He will represent the interests of all partners in the RadioDNS value chain and looks forward to building on the early work that the BBC has done in this area in order to drive the project to widespread uptake and standardisation, if that is what is decided is the best outcome for the project. On a personal level he is excited by the project and looks forward to playing a part in its next steps.
