RadioDNS

We originally scheduled our Second General Meeting for the 9th February 2010, at a venue to be confirmed. This is the meeting at which our statutes will be ratified.

There is an opportunity to coincide our meeting with meetings from WorldDMB and IMDA, being held at the EBU in Geneva on the 16th-18th February 2010.

As many of the RadioDNS supporters are also involved in WorldDMB and IMDA, it seems to make sense to move the Second General Meeting into this week. That would reduce some peoples’ travel costs, and also allow for some informal networking and information sharing across the days.

So the RadioDNS Second General Meeting is now scheduled for Tuesday 16th February 2010 at the European Broadcasting Union in Geneva.

Apologies to anyone who has already made travel plans for the 9th February.

We are pleased to announce the release of v1.0.0 of the technical specification for the RadioVIS application built upon the RadioDNS methodology.

Eagle-eyed readers will spot this document is dated September 2009 as we had hoped to tie this release together with v1.0.0 of the RadioDNS specification. Unfortunately the RadioDNS specification got caught up in the formalisation process and, as a result, so too did RadioVIS.

With a device already on the market utilising RadioDNS and the RadioVIS application, we are looking forward to many more exciting implementations in 2010.

Radio professionals in the United States, Canada or Europe are welcome to a free ‘webinar’ on what to watch for in the radio industry in 2010. RadioDNS will be one of the topics covered; speaking will be James Cridland, a member of the RadioDNS statutes drafting team.

In a meeting this afternoon, hosted by the EBU, the following were elected as members of the Statutes Drafting Team.

This team will convene shortly to start work on the task, and will publish periodic updates. The intention is to deliver a complete draft by 1st February 2010, so that it can be thoroughly viewed by all interested parties ahead of our next General Meeting.

The next General Meeting has been set for February 9th at 14h00 CET, at a location to be agreed. At this meeting, it is intended the draft statutes will be ratified, and lead to an election of a Steering Board.

The initial RadioDNS team are grateful to the EBU’s help in counting the votes and organising the day, and for their invaluable assistance and advice.

Nominations closed for the Statutes Drafting Team last week, but it was necessary to clarify a couple of nominations that had been transferred from the original request for nominations for the Steering Team.

The nominees are listed below, and these will be the candidates for an election as part of Tuesday’s meeting, during which we will discuss and agree what the Statutes Drafting Team will deliver back to the General Meeting and by when.

We’re pleased to add this morning the EBU to our list of supporters.

The European Broadcasting Union are very kindly hosting our first General Assembly next week, and continue to give invaluable advice on RadioDNS’s organisational structure. All on the RadioDNS team are very grateful to them.

“Supporters” have an interest in the RadioDNS project, and are supportive of the overall project aims.

We were delighted to see that the NAB Radio TechCheck weekly newsletter featured RadioDNS today, alongside the PURE Sensia. It is an excellent primer on both RadioDNS and the Sensia.

RadioDNS is an extensible technology for augmenting radio broadcasts: but we’d not thought of using it elsewhere.

Spotted this morning – an interesting article from Tony Hirst – taking the ideas of RadioDNS and applying it… to books.

We think we’ll leave that to Tony; but great to see people building on RadioDNS’s core principles.
