RadioDNS

Manufacturers and app developers

RadioDNS is designed to make radio better on your device or app.

RadioDNS makes radio work better on your device or app, using the best of broadcast and the internet to enable a hybrid radio environment. Implementing RadioDNS applications on your device will make radio look better at POS, adds additional functions to enable product differentiation, and reduce power consumption and bandwidth use.

RadioDNS technology is free for you to incorporate into your mobile phone apps and consumer electronics. The core RadioDNS technology, and the RadioDNS applications, are patent-free and can be incorporated at zero cost.

There is no new technology in the core RadioDNS specification. It uses the standard DNS system that is present in all internet connected devices, and is highly scalable, relying on the existing network of domain name servers operated by consumer ISPs. The broadcast radio components use widely-adopted broadcast technology, standardised for over twenty years.

All specifications for RadioDNS are openly published. Your device or app will use standard calls to the DNS stack that is already present on your device. The RadioDNS applications have been designed to be lightweight and simple for CE devices to implement, and do not require a high amount of processor power. Much of the data generated by RadioDNS applications, including the core RadioDNS toolset, can be successfully cached to enable high performance. Users are able to use RadioDNS-enabled applications without adjusting any settings.

What now?

We recommend you read the documentation for the core RadioDNS lookup activity, and the associated RadioDNS applications.

Since RadioDNS is open and free/libre, you have no requirement to contact the RadioDNS Project Office during development of your device or app. However, you may find it useful to join our announce list.

If you have any questions in terms of implementing RadioDNS-enabled applications on your device or app, please join our developers list, or get in touch in confidence.

A legal note on patents

There are no patents within the core RadioDNS technology, and the RadioDNS applications, to the best visibility of the RadioDNS project and its contributors.
