Technical Group and Automotive Workshop news

Membership of RadioDNS has hit a new high, our technical teams are currently working on two new standards and we announce the date of our tenth Automotive Workshop. Read on to find out all the details.

Technical Developments

Our Technical Group is made up of representatives from our members and they work on developing new standards suggested by members – a benefit of being a member of RadioDNS.

We have teams from the Technical Group working on two new standards, aiming for release in February 2022:

  • Broadcast Audio Replacement will make it possible to seamlessly switch a listener between broadcast delivered audio, and audio delivered over IP specifically targeted to that listener. There are strong editorial and commercial use cases for this functionality.
  • Analytics will standardise how information about broadcast radio listening can be delivered to broadcasters in a way analogous to streaming listening, making analysis of broadcast and IP listening easier.

We will also be updating existing standards to better support voice assistants in vehicles, new streaming audio formats, and extending the metadata that can be delivered alongside audio.

If you’re a Member of RadioDNS, and want to be included in these activities, just let us know by email. If those activities are relevant to you, and you’re not a Member, we’ll be glad to explain how you can join RadioDNS.

Automotive Workshop X

The Automotive Workshops we organise with WorldDAB are an opportunity for broadcasters and manufacturers to get together and honestly talk about problems affecting radio listeners today. The workshops are about fixing today’s problems, rather than defining new technical standards.

We’ve started drawing up the agenda for the next meeting on October 19th. Topics will include a review of progress on previous issues, how driver distraction guidelines will affect current implementations, and an update on Android Automotive implementations.

If you have an issue you’d like us to discuss, please let us know soon so we can add it to the Agenda. If you’ve expressed interest in a previous workshop we will be in touch soon to ask you to register.  If you haven’t been in touch before, please reply to this email and we will add you to the communication list.

RadioDNS membership grows

Over the past few months new members have joined and we are delighted to let you know we have welcomed NXPGracenote and Hubbard Radio to the RadioDNS fold. There are many benefits to being a member, if you are interested in more information, please reply to this email or check out this page on our website.

Thanks for reading, we only send emails when we have something to say, but if you no longer want to receive these updates, please unsubscribe, and if you think it’d be interesting for your colleagues, please forward it on. If this has been forwarded to you, subscribe here.

All the information you need about RadioDNS should be on our website, but if you can’t find the answer to a question, please contact us any time and we will be happy to help.

Best wishes,

Nick (Project Director) and Rosie (Project Co-ordinator)
