It’s been a busy year for the Project, with some really exciting announcements and collaborations. As always, we’re delighted that RadioDNS is contributing to the growth of hybrid radio worldwide, and it’s great to see broadcasters using our standards to make better radio.

At IFA this week, RadioDNS was featured in several announcements. Lingo, the makers of innovative DAB adaptors for Smart Phones, updated their companion iOS and Android apps to integrate RadioDNS Hybrid Radio functionality, thereby enriching the experience of digital radio.

Our member IRT (Instituit für Rundfunktechnik), demonstrated their DABberry – a digital radio prototype which combines DAB radio with the popular Raspberry Pi computing platform. Using a Wifi-connected tablet PC, listeners could enjoy a full, interactive hybrid radio experience with visuals and programme information.

Finally, KeyStone Semiconductor announced that the company has successfully embedded the RadioDNS feature in its mobile phone app and demonstrated it at IFA.  Further demonstrations will happen Hong Kong Electronics Fair from Oct. 13 – 16.

At IBC, we’ll be showing the new edition of Revo’s PiXiS RS. This brilliant colour touch screen tabletop radio now has RadioDNS Hybrid Radio functionality integrated into it.

The car industry is a vital sector for future radio developments, so we’re really pleased to demonstrate Visteon’s Hybrid Car Radio, which shows how a connected car environment can support hybrid radio functionality, even on the most basic of car models.

The EBU will be showing their RadioVIS webplayer, which lets you monitor the visual output of several radio stations, or incorporate a live visual feed into a webpage.

There will also be a demonstration of the latest prototype Hybrid Radio Smartphone App, written by Global Radio’s Creative Technology Team (main picture above). This app showcases the latest Android design standards, and shows what great hybrid radio could look like on a smartphone.

All of the demonstrations will be able to access hybrid radio content from our member NPO (the Netherlands public broadcaster), as well as content from the UK, France, Germany and other European countries.

Our Secretary, Mathias Coinchon (Senior Project Manager Technology and Innovation, EBU) will be at the stand, along with Nick Piggott, RadioDNS’s Chair. If you’d like to arrange a meeting, please email the Project Office.
