This week, RadioDNS Project Director Nick Piggott will be speaking at the WorldDAB Automotive event in Frankfurt, sharing updates on two key initiatives that are helping broadcasters and automotive manufacturers work together to improve the hybrid radio experience in vehicles.
A New Home for the UX Guidelines
One of the topics Nick will be covering is the newly launched User Experience Guidelines website.
The guidelines represent years of collaboration across the radio and automotive industries, bringing together expertise from broadcasters, manufacturers, platform providers and technology partners. Their purpose is simple: to help ensure that radio remains easy to find, simple to use and enjoyable to experience, regardless of the vehicle, platform or market.
To make this valuable resource more accessible, the guidelines have been reformatted and published on a dedicated website, which will be officially unveiled during the presentation.
The new platform will make it easier for manufacturers, developers and broadcasters to access best practices and implement recommendations that support a consistent and high-quality radio experience for listeners.
The Value of Automotive Workshops
Nick will also highlight the ongoing success of the Automotive Workshops, jointly supported by WorldDAB and RadioDNS.
Held four times each year, these workshops bring together broadcasters, vehicle manufacturers, technology providers and industry experts to discuss the challenges facing radio in the car and work collaboratively towards solutions.
Unlike traditional conference sessions, the workshops encourage open discussion, knowledge sharing and practical problem-solving.
Recent topics have included:
- Implementing prominence regulation in Germany
- Identifying and addressing functionality gaps within Android Automotive
- Ensuring good quality experiences for drivers using voice assistants / agentic LLMs in vehicles
The workshops have become an important forum for ensuring that radio continues to evolve alongside changing automotive technology and listener expectations.
